In this presentation, Todd Thompson (Torrey) and Judith Mendelsohn Rood (History) address the conflicts originating in the Middle East which are spilling across the globe. In the news, Presidential debates, and in Christian colleges like Wheaton, Islam has become an increasingly polarizing and sensitive issue. The relationship between Islam and Christianity in the United States has become increasingly vexed and a host of questions have arisen: Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God? Is Islam essentially violent? How does one determine what is Islamic? How can Christians speak truth about Islam in loving ways? In this session, Todd Thompson and Judith Rood explore Islam’s evolving place within American evangelical Christian culture and offer perspectives on Islam’s relationship to terrorism.
